OSB (Oriented Strand Board) and particleboard are both engineered woods, but their material structures are worlds apart. OSB uses large strands (40-100mm) layered in cross-oriented directions, giving it a "thousand-layer" structure; particleboard is made from fine sawdust and wood chips bonded with adhesive. In terms of strength, OSB's cross-oriented layers deliver far superior load-bearing capacity and nail-holding power, with a lifespan of 30-50 years versus particleboard's 2-3 years. For environmental performance, OSB uses less glue and often formaldehyde-free binders, reaching ENF grade (≤0.025mg/m³), while particleboard is typically E0 grade. OSB also resists moisture swelling far better than particleboard, which tends to warp when exposed to humidity. Bottom line: Choose OSB for strength, durability and eco-friendliness; choose particleboard for budget-friendly projects.
