Wooden crates can be categorized by structure into several types, including ordinary wooden crates, skid crates, framed wooden crates, enclosed wooden crates, lattice crates, wire-bound crates, plywood crates, bamboo plywood crates, corrugated cardboard crates with wooden frames, detachable wooden crates, and environmentally friendly wooden crates.

Ordinary wooden crates are made of panels and battens, with an internal weight limited to 200 kg or less. They consist of sides, ends, bottom, and lid. Skid crates use a skid-framed base, with sides and ends made of panels and battens; they are medium-sized crates with an internal weight limited to 200-1500 kg. Framed wooden crates are large crates with framed sides and ends; their internal weight ranges from 500-20000 kg.

Enclosed wooden crates are sealed crates with surfaces nailed together using wooden boards. Lattice crates are crates with surfaces nailed together using wooden strips, forming a lattice-like structure. A wire-strapped box is a wooden box made by connecting box panels with steel wire to form the box surface and reinforcing it with box bars.
